During the late quarter of 1997, I was amazed at the high-quality of
the TV show 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer'. I liked the show so much that I
decided to create a chat room about it so I could meet friends who
shared my interests.
So that's when I founded an IRC
channel known as #BUFFYS_ROOM on irc.msn.com. It was a place for Buffy
and non-Buffy fans alike to hang out, make friends and just be
themselves. The channel had quite a few regulars during its prime, but
the popularity of the channel isn't what made it so wonderful. No, it
was the heart. #BUFFYS_ROOM was a place where true friendships were
born...a place where you could go and talk about whatever, be whoever.
Members eagerly met other members in real life, and it had soon evolved
into much more than a place for fanboys to drool over how hot Sarah
Michelle Gellar was. (Of course, that happened too! :) ) In short,
#BUFFYS_ROOM was like a second home to many people. It created, it
brought together, and most importantly, it LIVED!
Unfortunately, due to personal
reasons, I couldn't run #BUFFYS_ROOM anymore and the channel slowly
started dying until Microsoft pulled the plug on their irc server. When
I came back online again after so many years, I was very dissapointed
to hear this news. I mean, #BUFFYS_ROOM was responsible for meeting my
best friend! How can it just die? Well, it won't if we do something
about it!
Yeah, I know - the show has been
over for quite some time now and I suppose I could 'just write fan
fiction' like some people suggest. However, there are like
3437158709174 different Buffy fan fics out there. But there is only one #BUFFYS_ROOM.
